Grew up in Washington state, but attended San Clemente (Calif.) High, where he was on the varsity roster as a sophomore, junior and senior … as a senior, was a captain on a team that went 9-5 overall and advanced all the way to the CIF Southern Section Division 2 championship game … was limited to nine games (of 14) as a senior, due to an off-season injury … as a junior, Tritons went 6-6 and reached the quarterfinals of the Division 2 playoffs … team went 9-2 is sophomore season, winning the South Coast League and earning a spot in the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs … played for coach Jaime Ortiz at San Clemente.
